Top 10 Movie Trailers of 2014

As if 2014 didn't already have a lot going for it, I have to take some time out to recognize the movie trailers of this year. It felt like every time I blinked there was another jaw-dropping movie trailer or teaser announcement that broke the internet  for all of 2 minutes and 10 seconds. The funny thing is that the majority of this year's best trailers were geared towards the nerds and geeks of the world. This proves that 2014 was indeed the year of the nerd. Here are 14 of 2014's most epic movie trailers that changed our outlook of cinema in years to come.

10. Jurassic World

Steven Spielberg is at it again. The trailer for 'Jurassic World' has been on everyone's minds for quite some time. It took the world by surprise and I don't think everyone's recovered yet. After the success of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' everyone's eager to see how Chris Pratt fits into such big shoes. I mean, it is Jurassic Park after all. If it does end up doing horribly then I'm pretty sure theaters will burn. No biggie. 'Jurassic World' will be opening in theaters on June 12th, 2015.

9. American Sniper

Yet another gem from the mind of Clint Eastwood. I was surprised at how thrilling this trailer was. I'm really looking forward to seeing this on Christmas. This may even replace something on my Top 14 list if it's really as good as the trailer makes it out to be. Needless to say, this trailer kept everyone on the edge of their seats wanting more.

8. Inside Out

Walt Disney and Pixar Studios are cooking up something quite clever in that kitchen of theirs. This time they want to tackle the emotions that run around in your head every day. Such a brilliant idea is backed up by voice acting by icons such as Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Mindy Kaling. Everyone should keep an eye out for this because it's gonna be a good one. 'Inside Out' is dropping in theaters on June 19th, 2015.

7. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Fans across the globe rejoice! The awesome, yet confusing, teaser trailer for the latest installment to the Star Wars franchise is here. We all are sitting on the edge of our couch chairs waiting to see what Disney will do with this relic of our pasts. There's a lot riding on this. Personally, I wasn't that excited about the teaser trailer because I feel like it didn't provide much information...but then again it's a teaser. Until later next year, we'll have to settle with this. 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' will be blessing us with its presence next Christmas season.

6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

If there were awards for movie trailers, I would nominate 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' over and over and over again. After 'Catching Fire', stuff really got real and the series took a turn for the better. Instead of the traditional trailer releases, the first batch of promotions were made to be like announcements from President Snow in The Capitol. Such a unique idea. Such terrific marketing. Such disturbing Capitol propaganda. I love it. On top of that they managed to debut them all in 4K...let that sink in.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy

IIIIIIIIII'M HOOKED ON A FEELIN' -trumpet- I'M HIGH ON BELIEVIN' -trumpet' THAT YOU'RE IN LOVE IN MEEEEEEEEEE! Enough said.

4.  Avengers: Age of Ultron

THIS. After the trailer for 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' leaked, the world was never the same. Not only is this a terrific insight into Marvel's Phase 3 plans for the next couple of years, but this trailer finally showed off how Disney and Marvel are getting along. Who would've thought to put in a song from Pinocchio? Whoever did deserves a raise because it's so beautiful and so creepy that it makes the trailer ten million times better. This is why Marvel has my money. 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' changes the world as we know it on May 1st, 2015.

3. The Fault in Our Stars

The trailer for 'The Fault in Our Stars' captured the hearts of bookworms everywhere. When the announcement was made that John Green's stellar novel was going to be made into a movie, fear began to grow as people were concerned that it may fall prey to Terrible Adaptation Syndrome. Thankfully the trailer confirmed that there wasn't much of a need to worry and that the book loyalty was indeed still gonna be there. Kudos to Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort for being such spot on depictions of Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Waters. It means a lot.

2. Pan

Not quite sure how long this trailer has been around on the interwebs but I know it sure took people by surprise when it started getting recognized. The origin of Peter Pan is one that deserves a movie. I'm so glad that Joe Wright ('Hanna', 'Pride & Prejudice') is taking the reigns on this because I'm sure he will do it justice. On top of that, hey Hugh Jackman! Didn't expect to see you here. I'm excited for what 'Pan' has in store. 'Pan' hits theaters on July 24th, 2015.

1. Pitch Perfect 2

This. Was. Awesome. Everyone's favorite cult classic 'Pitch Perfect' finally has an established sequel and it's going to be acca-awesome! Everyone's back with vocal chords as strong as iron and it looks like it's time to take on some real competition. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing where Pentatonix pops in since they didn't make an appearance in the trailer. 'Pitch Perfect 2' comes to theaters on May 15th, 2015.
